The Man Behind the Menu

With a passion for delicious, beautifully presented food, a sincere love for pleasing people’s palates, and a tireless work ethic, Barry Layne is the embodiment of the committed chef. He began working in fine restaurants in Southern California when he was just 15 years old, quickly rising to prominence as a master chef at establishments that include JC Resorts, Ventana Inn in Big Sur, and Jose Eber Café Salon in Beverly Hills. At just 21 years old, he was personally invited by numerous restaurant patron celebrities such as Linda Gray, Larry Hagman, and Brenda Vaccaro to cater their private parties.

Prior to starting Coast Catering, Layne was Executive Chef and Catering Director for over nine years at the award-winning Delicias restaurant in Rancho Santa Fe, California. In this capacity he was in charge of all off-site events and special functions, attending to affairs such as the mega-dollar birthday gala featuring entertainment by singer Paul McCartney.

Since starting his own company, Coast Catering has earned a reputation for providing outstanding, competitively priced full-service catering services to a variety of customers in Southern California. The company produces events in locations in San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and Palm Desert.

Layne has been featured frequently in the press and Riviera magazine gave high praise to his work, saying, “Only one chef has the long-term lock on the 92067 (Rancho Santa Fe) crowd.” Layne also donates his services to numerous charities including Children’s Hospital, UCSD, Scripps, Los Patronas and Helen Woodward Animal Center.
